University of Sunderland in Association with Waterstones Short Story Award

I work at the University of Sunderland where I teach creative writing. There are many hats to the job. I’m going to need a hat stand. One of my main pleasures is being able to run our Short Story Award in conjunction with our excellent and committed City library and the Sunderland branch of Waterstones who provided our wonderful venue, gift vouchers and cake (very important).

We had our inaugural award in 2016 and found some exceptional writers. You can read a little more about it and see the happy faces here. It was lovely to hear one girl comment that now she wanted to grow up and be a writer.

We’ll be back with some new aspects to the award in October, where we will be hoping to do just that – to aid all participants and future winners on their writing journey. I’m excited.

Keep checking back here for news.
